The Commission for Comparative Research on Slavic Literatures
is a body of the International Committee of Slavists. The Commission supports comparative research on Slavic literatures and cultures.
- The comparative nature of the Commission’s research may stem from the scholar’s own comparative approach or from the confrontation of perspectives and interpretations presented in various scholarly dimensions: literary, cultural-historical, ideological, and political.
- In today’s tense global climate, where parties claim possession of “objective truth,” comparatists bear special responsibilities, as comparative research can raise awareness of the process by which truth becomes a social construct shaped by language, culture, and politics.
- The Commission fosters communication among individuals, research centers, and institutions engaged in comparative studies of Slavic literatures and cultures, and promotes scholarly projects in this field.
The International Committee of Slavists (ICS)
is a scholarly organization uniting Slavists all over the world. It was established in Yugoslavia (Belgrade, 1955), with the aim of renewing and continuing international relations in Slavic studies and traditions of the 1st International Congress of Slavists, which was held in Prague in 1929.
